SOLTON PROJECT 100

video upload by Vintage Audio Institute Italia

"Frankly we're not that well versed in 80s Digital or hybrid synths - MIDI sync, sub menus accessible by pressing three buttons simultaneously while peering into unsexy tiny screens trying to figure out what parameter you're actually tweaking...

It can be demoralising.

But we like the Solton Project 100 a lot - maybe because it looks like the Solton Programmer 24 - and they match up very nicely sound wise as well - more of that to come.

It's a 6 voice DCO synthesizer with SSM filters and came out around the same time as the Roland Juno 106. In this video we're only using the Solton Project 100 - and especially its built-in sequencer - basically just recording patterns and then flipping through the presets to create something.

The sequencer doesn't quantize at all from what we can tell - which is a bit odd - but also kind of cool.

It definitely grants you textures and phrases that you might not have settled for were they perfectly in grid.

Jason Basson made a ton of impulsive videos of the Solton Project 100 a while back - does anyone know what happened to him? [He's still around. You can find some of his Solton videos in previous posts here]

JASON BASSON - YOU GIVE THE WORLD TO ME ( 4- TRACK INSTRUMENTAL VERSION )

video upload by Jason Basson

"I bought recently a very nice vintage organ. In a video I had heard that its rhythms section sounded very nice. I prepared a rhythm on it ( by pushing several buttons at the same time, this gives you a new rhythm! ). I wanted to stay in the vintage environment and I searched a nice sound on the Roland SH-2000. Then I choose a phaser wave on my Siel Flying 49 and some stringsounds on my Eminent Solina String-Ensemble. This track will I also make with my Atari/Ableton with vocals of me and Lady Nathalie."

TAPE LOOPS 4 Published on May 17, 2020 Jason Basson

That's some noise, right there. See here for posts and additional details on Error Instruments Broken Tape Simulator.

TRIGGER TASTE 8

Published on Apr 2, 2017 Jason Basson

"I am back with a new 'Trigger Taste' video. The Korg MS-20 Mini is triggered by the Oberkorn sequencer. We demonstrate here also the Sample & Hold and the external signal processor of the MS-20 Mini. The sounds we get as I start the sequencer let me think on sounds from the early Front 242 on their Geography album. I did some field work and could find that Front 242 used an MS-20 on their Geography album. The first time I use the MS-20 Mini in a video. He will certainly re-appear in another video! Great piece of gear!"

VINTAGE SET 12

Published on Nov 9, 2016 Jason Basson

"This week I prepared everything for this new vintage set 12. I first programmed 4 rhythms on a TR-606. Than I used the trigger outs of the TR-606 to trigger the Arp Axxe( gate in) and the Cactus desert drums snare-module. And then I put a jack from the TR-606 headphones to the Micromoog Osc in. The Micromoog delivers very nice filtered sounds. The Cactus also. On the Jen I worked the resonance."

You don't see the Cactus often.

"An overview in image and sound of the synthesizer Model 101, the heart of the Roland System 100, produced in 1975 til 1979.I link also a sequencer to this synth. The model 101 is really a semi-modular synth."

TR-606 TRIPLE FREAK OUT

Published on Mar 7, 2015 Jason Basson

"Finally I made the video I wanted, to demonstrate the real power of my 4 606s. I programmed in the 1st 606 a rhythm, then I made a variety on that rhythm with the other 606s.All the 606s are linked with a special din sync-cable, so they all run straight in sync with each other. I got excited during this jam from that fat wall of sound you can create using 4 606s.No doubt, one of my best videos I already made.Turn up the volume!!"

SOLTON PROJECT 100 TRIGGER IN

Published on Dec 21, 2014 Jason Basson

"Another video about the very very rare synthesizer released in 1984: the Project 100 of Solton ( 100 because it has 40 sounds and 60 patches for your own sounds ).Here we talk about the trigger in on the Project 100.The Project 100 was the answer on the Jupiter 6 of Roland which was released one year earlier in 1983: also 6 voice polyphonic, midi, and a metal body."

VINCENT'S DREAMWORLD

Published on Dec 17, 2014 Jason Basson

"It started with a series of notes I entered in the MFB 601-sequencer which resulted in a nice semi-rhythmpattern in 1 MS-10. Then I searched a nice sound on the second MS-10 that went well with the semi-rhythmpattern. Finally I searched a nice starting sound on the Micromoog. This video demonstrates also some nice possibilities of the Micromoog. I already made some years ago a nice video about the Micromoog, which you can find in my videos. Originally the starting sound on the second MS-10 and on the Micromoog sounded slightly different, due to a sound off-knob on my handphone that was active and the knobs that I twisted."
